Missing you already!!

Victoria Pollard

I can't believe that's Open Studios Ayrshire finished for this year already!!

Thanks so much to everyone that came along, life's feeling very quiet today after 4 days of constant chitter chatter!  Since I was set up in the back room off Elaine's studio I haven't quite brought all my furniture back yet so I'm telling myself todays job is catching up on dog hugs!

Open Studios Ayrshire 2017

Victoria Pollard

I've been a bit busy recently - I have been acting as Chair for Open Studios Ayrshire which, at the very least, has been keeping me out of mischief!

I will be sharing a venue with the lovely Elaine Walker Art, who has kindly loaned me the use of a room in her home studio at 50 London Road, Kilmarnock.  All are welcome, there will be live painting and stitching and glazing (I'm not sure working with clay around someone else carpets is too wise unfortunately) and plenty of chitter chatter along with a display of my work and lots of items of sale.

See you there!!

Free Motion Embroidery class

Victoria Pollard

The beauty of free motion embroidery is that it is the imperfections which give it its character, you are quite simply using your sewing machine on the fabric as you would a pen on paper. It is one of the most liberating, fun, creative and stress-relieving things I have ever had the pleasure of learning.

It's probably important to say it could not be more different than, say, making a dress or stitching curtains... All the precision - the measuring, checking seam allowances, keeping within the lines - can be forgotten when it comes to free motion machine embroidery, so long as you can turn the machine on and thread it then you're ready to get started...

If you'd like to come along and have a go then be sure to click through and book a place on my free motion embroidery class, running in conjunction with Sew Confident Ltd on The Hidden Lane in Finnieston, Glasgow.

The Steamie Galleries

Victoria Pollard

I've been really excited to take part in The Steamie Galleries, in the old steamie at the back of the Govanhill Baths.  The exhibition runs until May 24th, and is open Monday to Saturday, 11am-5.30pm.  Not only does the place look fantastic, the artwork of the 47 artists is brilliant.

I can't recommend finding the time to pop along enough - be sure to take your purses too!!

Govanhill Baths, 99 Calder Street, Glasgow - entrance to The Steamie Galleries is via the back door on Kingarth Street...

Taps Aff...!

Victoria Pollard

July has been an absolute scorcher, and with the Commonwealth Games here in Glasgow it's been an amazing month...  Here's a quirky picture I did earlier in the summer that just about sums it up:  Taps Aff!

(Translation for non-Scots... Tops Off!  - Just doesn't have the same ring to it somehow...!)

Highland Coo...!

Victoria Pollard

I had a bit of fun last week and found this lovely guy taking shape on my machine... He was sold almost as soon as he was framed but mounted prints are still available if you need this coo in your life...!!!!

Dreaming of summer...

Victoria Pollard

I've been working on a new picture recently, wishing the sunshine and colours of summer would hurry up!!  Still a bit of work to do on it but really happy with it so far....
